How Telegram counts characters

Telegram allows 4,096 characters in a text message. When you attach a photo or video, the text becomes a caption and the limit drops to 1,024. Tick "With a photo or video" below to check against the caption limit.

Among the 23 networks with a counter here, Telegram has the 9th shortest of 14 different limits. Shorter is not worse: it only changes how you write. A long limit means the first lines matter most, because that is what people see before they open the post.

This counter counts each character (Unicode code point), the same way Postozo checks it before saving.

Connecting Telegram to Postozo

Tips for Telegram posts

• Posting a photo? Keep the text under 1,024 characters or send the text as a follow-up.
• Up to 10 files are sent together as an album.
• Use "Send without sound" for messages that are not urgent.
• The bot must be an admin of the channel with permission to post.

Before you post on Telegram

• Read the post on a phone screen. Most people will see it there, and long lines look longer on a small screen.
• Open every link once to check it works and goes to the right page.
• Keep the full, longer version of your text. You may want it for a network with more room than Telegram.
