How LinkedIn counts characters

LinkedIn counts every character of the post text. Some characters such as brackets, @, # and * have a special meaning in LinkedIn's text format. Postozo escapes them for you so LinkedIn does not cut the post short.

Among the 23 networks with a counter here, LinkedIn has the 8th shortest of 14 different limits. Shorter is not worse: it only changes how you write. A mid-size limit leaves room for a short story and a call to action.

This counter counts each character (Unicode code point), the same way Postozo checks it before saving.

Tips for LinkedIn posts

• The first 2 or 3 lines decide if people open the post. Say the useful part first.
• Up to 9 images or 1 video. Turn on "Post images as a carousel" to show several images as a set.
• Put links in a first comment if you prefer to keep the post clean.
• Short paragraphs with blank lines between them are easier to read on a phone.

Before you post on LinkedIn

• Read the post on a phone screen. Most people will see it there, and long lines look longer on a small screen.
• Open every link once to check it works and goes to the right page.
• Keep the full, longer version of your text. You may want it for a network with more room than LinkedIn.
