How X counts characters

X gives standard accounts 280 characters. Every link counts as 23 characters, however long it is, because X shortens it. X also weighs some characters, such as many emoji and Chinese, Japanese and Korean letters, as 2, so leave a little room when you use them.

Among the 23 networks with a counter here, X has the shortest of 14 different limits. Shorter is not worse: it only changes how you write. Short limits reward 1 clear idea per post.

This counter replaces every link with 23 characters, the way X does, and shows the plain count too.

How to use this X counter

1. Write or paste your post on X in the box above.
2. Watch the "left" number. It turns amber when less than 10% is left and red when the text is too long.
3. Keep links as they are. Each one already counts as 23.
4. Too long? Move the rest to a follow-up. Postozo posts follow-ups as a thread.

Tips for X posts

• Links always count as 23, so do not shorten them yourself to save space.
• Too long? Split it into a thread. In Postozo, follow-up comments on X become a thread.
• Choose who can reply with the "Who can reply" setting.
• Up to 4 images or 1 video. X cannot mix photos and a video in 1 post.
• X Premium accounts can post up to 25,000 characters. Postozo reads that from your account.

Before you post on X

• Read the post on a phone screen. Most people will see it there, and long lines look longer on a small screen.
• Open every link once to check it works and goes to the right page.
• Keep the full, longer version of your text. You may want it for a network with more room than X.
