Why there is no single best time

Your followers live in different time zones, work different hours and open LinkedIn at different moments. A time that works for a software company in London may be wrong for a shop in Indore. Published studies of the best time to post on LinkedIn use other people's accounts, so treat them as a guess to test, not a rule.

A common starting guess is a workday morning in your audience's time zone. Start there, then let your own numbers decide.

A 4 week test to find your best time

1. Pick 3 slots. For example Tuesday 08:00, Wednesday 12:00 and Thursday 17:00, in your audience's time zone.
2. Post the same kind of content. Keep the type and length similar, so the time is the main thing that changes.
3. Rotate for 4 weeks. That gives you about 12 posts, 4 per slot.
4. Compare reactions, comments and reposts per post, not followers. Look at the average per slot.
5. Keep the winner, test a new slot. Replace the weakest slot with a new one and repeat.

What to measure

Compare posts by engagement, not by followers gained. Followers change slowly and for many reasons. Reactions, comments and reposts show how people answered that post, at that time. Comments count for more than they look: a post with 10 thoughtful comments often did better than a post with 40 quick likes. Write down the slot, the topic and the result for each post, so you can see if a good result came from the time or from the topic.
