How Farcaster counts characters

Farcaster limits casts by bytes, not characters: 320 bytes. Plain English letters use 1 byte each, but emoji use up to 4 and many other letters use 2 or 3. This counter shows bytes for that reason.

Among the 23 networks with a counter here, Farcaster has the 3rd shortest of 14 different limits. Shorter is not worse: it only changes how you write. Short limits reward 1 clear idea per post.

This counter shows bytes as the main number and plain characters below it.

Rules Postozo checks for Farcaster

Max 320 bytes of text (emoji and some letters use more than 1 byte). Up to 2 photos or videos, added as links. Optional channel in Settings. Follow-up comments become replies.

How to use this Farcaster counter

1. Write or paste your Farcaster cast in the box above.
2. Watch the "left" number. It turns amber when less than 10% is left and red when the text is too long.
3. If you are close to the limit, swap emoji for words. Emoji use up to 4 bytes each.

Connecting Farcaster to Postozo

You connect Farcaster by pasting your details, which Postozo stores encrypted:

• Signer UUID: Create a signer in the Neynar developer portal and approve it in the Farcaster app. Paste its UUID here.
• Neynar API key (optional): The key from the same Neynar app that made the signer. Leave empty if the server already has one.

After posting, Postozo shows statistics for each post as Farcaster shares them, next to the live link.

• Emoji eat the limit fast. 1 emoji can use 4 bytes.
• Up to 2 photos or videos, added as links.
• Cast into a channel with the Farcaster channel setting.
• Follow-up comments become replies, so you can post a thread.

Before you post on Farcaster

• Read the post on a phone screen. Most people will see it there, and long lines look longer on a small screen.
• Open every link once to check it works and goes to the right page.
• Keep the full, longer version of your text. You may want it for a network with more room than Farcaster.

Write once, fit every network
